About Us
The Lyons Tool and Die Company was established in 1951 by William L. Lyons Jr. The company's specialty was the design and build of custom progressive dies . The company's first location was on Pratt Street in Meriden , Connecticut (CT) starting out with less than five employees. Through the early days it was not uncommon for his wife, Evelyn, to retreat from her accounting office to run one of the first lathes. Customers such as Royal Typewriter, North and Judd , Connecticut Telephone and Electric and American Hardware were some of the first to utilize the services of this craft oriented business.
Growth was driven by the relentless efforts of Lyons and his crew along with their reputation for extremely intricate tooling and innovation. The company had now expanded its customer base and was doing business all over Connecticut. Craftsmanship and hard work paid off. Lyons moved to Gypsy Lane , also in Meriden , in 1957.
In 1969 William L. Lyons III came into the picture. Armed with a degree in economics from the Colgate University and strong business sense, the younger Lyons was implementing changes that would soon require the tool and die company to once again relocate to a larger facility in 1980. The new building was located on Research Parkway in Meriden Connecticut . The business had now evolved into a full service tool and die shop that also specialized in precision metal stampings. The company was committed to staying on the leading edge of technology and continued to invest in new equipment and highly skilled employees.
Keeping with tradition, 1992 brought the third generation to the helm of the transitioning company. William L. Lyons IV ( Will ) came with an extensive mechanical background and the ability to see beyond the companies current capabilities. After a short time on the shop floor and a thorough understanding of the company's capabilities Will decided to bring his experience on the road. With sales increasing and geographic boundaries behind them, the international provider of precision manufacturing services moved into its current location in November of 2001.
